Quilts for Sick Children

On Sunday 30th March 2008 at the 10 o’clock service our Rector blessed 26 baby quilts. The quilts were made by Anne Pike’s group of quilters in between their other projects, such as the panels for the Children’s Corner, which were blessed on Easter Sunday.

We make the quilts for Project Linus UK. This project was set up in Denver Rocky Mountain Children’s Cancer Centre in 1995 and came to England in 2000. The project aims to supply quilts for premature babies and for older children who are sick. The quilts are given to the children, who take them home when they leave hospital. The quilts are sent to a lady in Child Okeford and she makes deliveries where they are needed. Occasionally there are requests for individual children who are seriously ill and being cared for at home.

There is a never ending need for quilts – from the tiny ones 20” x 20” (50cm x 50cm) to the larger cot quilts measuring 40” x 60” (1m x 1.5m). If anyone would like to make a quilt, please contact Anne Pike or myself, or perhaps you would like to make a donation towards the cost of material, which would be most welcome.
